Get ready to orbit! Geespace – the private satellite arm of automaker Geely Holding Group – just completed the first phase of its mega IoT constellation. With 64 satellites now in low Earth orbit, this network spans the globe (except polar regions), delivering real-time surface comms for connected vehicles, remote sensors, and more 🌐🛰️.
It all kicked off when a rocket lifted off from a sea platform off the coast of the Chinese mainland's Shandong Province, sending 11 Geely-06 satellites on Wednesday into a preset orbit. This marks the last of six launches between 2022 and 2025, ensuring full satellite reliability and network availability.
The constellation is no small feat:
- Serving 20 million users worldwide
- Handling up to 340 million messages per day
- Supporting 5 million high-frequency and 15 million mid/low-frequency links
Next up? Phase One expands to 72 satellites soon, boosting capacity and service reliability. Then Phase Two will ramp up to 264 satellites for direct-to-smartphone links. And Phase Three? A whopping 5,676 satellites aimed at global broadband coverage 🚀.
Built for space-based connected-vehicle networks, this system offers real-time positioning and messaging, keeping cars continuously linked. Geespace has teamed up with China Unicom, Geely Auto, and Zoomlion to pilot satellite-IoT fusion in smart vehicles, marine fisheries, heavy machinery, and logistics.
Some Geely Zeekr and Galaxy EVs are already rocking space comms. When ground networks go down, users can still send and receive messages via satellite 📶✨.
With its first phase complete, Geespace is set to roll out commercial satellite-IoT connectivity worldwide, pushing the boundaries of connected mobility and the Internet of Things. Stay tuned! 🤩
