China’s Global Governance Journey: Wang Wen’s 10-Year Perspective

Over the last decade, the Chinese mainland has gone from being a background player to taking center stage in shaping global rules. 🌍 At the SCO summit in Tianjin this September, China unveiled its Global Governance Initiative (GGI), calling for a more just and equitable system that works for everyone.

But why is this approach winning hearts around the world? To answer that, we tapped into the insights of Wang Wen, dean of the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China. His personal journey mirrors China's own evolution—from humble participant to confident leader on the world stage.

Wang Wen recalls attending early meetings as a young researcher, where ideas flowed but concrete plans were scarce. Fast-forward to today, and he's seen China champion new ideas—from digital economy cooperation to climate change partnerships—that bring real benefits to developing countries. It's about listening first, proposing solutions second, he says. 🤝

According to Wang, the GGI stands out because it focuses on shared growth, fairness, and respect for diverse voices. Whether it's boosting South–South cooperation or building global public goods, the initiative aims to bridge gaps and build trust. No wonder it's gaining momentum among SCO members and beyond!

Looking ahead, Wang Wen believes the next step is implementation—turning big ideas into on-the-ground projects that empower local communities. As China continues to refine its role, the world will be watching how the GGI shapes our collective future. Stay tuned! 💡
