China Unveils Global Climate Dataset & Drives AI Weather Collaboration

Hey climate and tech buffs! 🌍🚀 At the 4th China-ASEAN Meteorological Cooperation Forum in Nanning, in the south of the Chinese mainland's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) rolled out its brand-new CMA Global Climate Dataset—its first high-value climate data release for international users.

This mega-dataset comes in six juicy categories:

  • Global surface and upper-air data 🌡️🕊️
  • Grid-based climate reconstructions 📊
  • CMA's global atmospheric reanalysis 🌐
  • Fengyun satellite land-surface & radiation data 🛰️
  • Comprehensive ocean datasets 🌊

All data meet international standards and are now accessible in English via the China Meteorological Data Network and the World Meteorological Centre (Beijing) website. Expect these resources to power early warning systems, disaster mitigation, AI innovations, and climate research! 🔍💡

But wait—there’s more! The forum also launched the China-ASEAN Joint Innovation Action for AI Meteorological Model Application. This initiative is set to co-develop next-gen AI weather prediction tools, focusing on four pillars: joint innovation, data integration, talent cultivation, and a shared platform dubbed the “China-ASEAN Meteorological Home.” Think the Avengers squad, but for forecasting! ⚡👩‍💻🌪️

Under the theme “Digital Intelligence Empowers Meteorological Cooperation,” officials from the Chinese mainland, ASEAN member states, and the World Meteorological Organization highlighted AI’s game-changing potential and cheered on the UN’s “Early Warnings for All” initiative. Next stop: smarter, faster weather alerts that could save lives and property around the globe. 🌐❤️
