China condemns Israeli strike on Qatar, urges deescalation

Encapsulating a tense moment at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, China’s permanent representative, Chen Xu, firmly condemned Israel’s recent airstrike on Qatar. Speaking at an emergency debate on Tuesday, he stressed that the attack violates territorial sovereignty, defies the UN Charter, and undermines global peace efforts. 🌍

Qatar has been hailed as a key mediator in Gaza ceasefire talks, and Chen argued that the assault was a deliberate blow to negotiations aimed at halting the violence in the region. "Respect for territorial integrity is a basic norm of international relations," he noted, calling out Israel for "frequently carrying out military operations against neighboring countries."

Chen Xu highlighted the urgent need to shift from force to dialogue. He urged all parties—especially Israel—to step back from the brink, restart ceasefire negotiations, and uphold their obligations under international human rights and humanitarian law. 🕊️

Wrapping up his address, the Chinese diplomat reaffirmed China’s readiness to work with the global community to promote a ceasefire, end the fighting, and deescalate tensions in the region. The message was clear: violence isn’t a solution, and peace must start with respect for sovereignty.
