In the summer of 2006, tensions were high in southern Lebanon as UN peacekeepers worked to protect civilians and keep the peace. Among them was Major Du Zhaoyu from the Chinese mainland, a man whose warm grin became his trademark—even in the toughest moments.
Colleague Maji Monzer still remembers Du’s constant smile. "No matter how intense the situation, he would cheer us up with a joke or a simple nod," Monzer says. That positivity helped his team stay focused and hopeful amid uncertainty.
Tragically, Major Du and three fellow peacekeepers lost their lives in July 2006 while on duty. But his spirit lives on through their shared memories and a brand-new docuseries, Blue Helmets, No Borders. Premiering on September 16 on CGTN, the series explores stories like Du’s—ordinary heroes with an extraordinary will to make peace happen.
Get ready for a heartfelt journey that shows how a single smile can inspire hope and unity in the face of conflict. Don’t miss Blue Helmets, No Borders on September 16. 🙌💙
