Beijing Powers AI Revolution with 5G, AI+ & East Data-West Computing 🚀

Beijing, capital of the Chinese mainland, just dropped big news at the 2025 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS). Sun Lixin, a senior official from the Beijing Communications Administration, unveiled a high-energy roadmap to ramp up digital infrastructure and fuel the AI boom 🤖🚀.

Here’s the 3-step game plan:

  • Boosting networks 📶: Expand 5G, gigabit optical, and pilot 10-gig networks. Plus, set up more AI-ready computing hubs for lightning-fast processing.
  • Modernizing governance ⚙️: Nurture emerging sectors like AI to keep Beijing’s IT scene at the cutting edge.
  • Rolling out AI+ 🤝: Seamlessly weave AI into industries—from smart factories to the industrial internet—helping businesses slash costs and level up efficiency.

This push aligns with the “East Data, West Computing” mega-project, launched in 2022 to shift data processing from the dense, energy-heavy eastern provinces to the resource-rich western regions. By tapping into cheaper renewable energy in the west, the plan aims to build a greener, more powerful national computing network. So far, eight national computing hubs and ten data center clusters are already up and running 🌱💡.

For young professionals, investors, students and global tech fans, Beijing’s digital transformation is a story of innovation meeting infrastructure. Get ready for faster streams, smarter factories, and a digital landscape that’s ready to take on the future!
