Imagine a world where everyone can get legal help with just a conversation. In the past five years, the public legal services sector in the Chinese mainland provided over 170 million consultations during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) 🎉. That’s more chats with lawyers than the populations of many big countries!
He Rong, the minister of Justice, revealed these stats at a recent press conference celebrating a period of rapid growth in judicial services. The Chinese mainland has boosted accessibility and balanced legal support across urban and rural areas, ensuring groups like migrant workers, people with disabilities, the elderly, juveniles, and military families get the guidance they need 👥.
On the front lines of justice are some 830,000 lawyers, 67,000 arbitrators, 15,000 notaries, 40,000 judicial appraisers, and 12,000 legal aid workers. Together, they handle over 40 million cases every year ⚖️.
But it doesn’t stop at the border. During the same period, the Chinese mainland ramped up international legal exchanges—signing 91 treaties on legal assistance and 19 on transferring sentenced persons, while processing more than 16,000 international judicial assistance cases 🌏.
Plus, Chinese law firms have gone global with 207 branch offices in 37 countries and regions. They’re out there helping Chinese citizens and businesses navigate foreign legal systems on their 'going global' journeys 🚀.
For young professionals, students, and travelers alike, these moves mean stronger protections and smoother support when it comes to legal matters—at home and abroad. Stay tuned for more updates on how legal services are evolving across Asia and beyond!
