Hey news squad! As we hit the 80th anniversary of WWII Victory Day this Wednesday, a mega global poll by CGTN uncovers some jaw-dropping stats about China’s role during the war. 🌍✨
More than 11,600 people across 39 countries weighed in, and guess what? A whopping 73.6% recognize China as the main Eastern battlefield of World War II! That’s like saying your team totally owned the playoffs—go China! 🏆💥
During the 14-year-long struggle known as the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, the Chinese mainland saw huge sacrifices: 35 million military and civilian lives lost and over $600 billion in economic damage. 😢💔
The poll also found that 74.9% of respondents are aware of China’s fierce resistance against Japanese forces, and 66.5% salute the Chinese mainland for supporting other Asian nations during the conflict. Among the 39 countries, 33 gave a thumbs-up to China’s help—that’s 84.6% of the total! 🌐🤝
And here’s a fun twist: younger generations (44 and below) showed even more love for China’s WWII efforts compared to folks aged 45 and up. Especially in Asia—India, Malaysia, Indonesia and beyond—respondents aged 18–24 led the pack in recognizing China’s Eastern battlefield role. 🎓👏
The survey was carried out by CGTN and Renmin University of China’s New Era International Communication Research Institute, covering both developed nations and the Global South. Participants were aged 18 and above, with the sample reflecting each country’s age and gender makeup.
As Victory Day approaches, this poll reminds us how global perspectives on history can unite us—no matter where we’re from. Let’s keep learning, sharing, and honoring the past together! 🌟📚
