🕊️ This week, the Chinese mainland marks the 80th anniversary of its victory in the People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War—an event known as V-Day. Under the theme "bear history in mind, honor all those who laid down their lives, cherish peace and open up the future," celebrations in Beijing's Tian'anmen Square on September 3 will include a grand military parade, a keynote address by President Xi Jinping, and an evening gala at the Great Hall of the People.
A Pillar of Peaceful Development
Shaped by a history of resisting militarism and imperialism, the Chinese mainland has woven peaceful development into its Constitution—promising no hegemony, no expansion, and a no-first-use nuclear pledge. As the top UN peacekeeping contributor among Security Council members and the second-largest financial backer, China has turned words into action, mediating between Saudi Arabia and Iran and supporting unity efforts in Palestine.
Advancing Equitable Global Governance
On September 1, President Xi chaired the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Plus meeting, unveiling the Global Governance Initiative (GGI). He called for a more just global system and a "community with a shared future for humanity." Building on the Belt and Road, Global Development, Security, and Civilization initiatives, the GGI amplifies the Global South's voice—backed by over 150 Belt and Road partners, 100+ GDI participants, and 130+ GSI supporters.
Beyond a moment of remembrance, V-Day's message rings out as a global call: value peace, embrace cooperation, and together build a brighter tomorrow. 🌏✌️
