Chinese mainland Carbon Emissions Fall 1% in H1 2025

In a fresh sign of a green energy revolution, a new study reveals that carbon emissions in the Chinese mainland dipped 1% in the first half of 2025 compared to a year earlier 🌍✨. This trend started in March 2024 and shows the power of renewables in action.

Emissions from the power sector, the biggest emitter of greenhouse gases, fell 3% even as electricity demand climbed 3.7%. Solar, wind and nuclear have outpaced the rise in energy use, proving that clean tech can keep up with growth ⚡🌱.

The Chinese mainland added a jaw-dropping 212 GW of solar capacity in just six months—more than the entire US system. Solar power has overtaken hydropower and is on track to surpass wind, after 51 GW of new turbines went online by June 🌞🌬️.

Lauri Myllyvirta from the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air said 'We're talking really for the first time about a structural declining trend in the Chinese mainland's emissions.' The Associated Press even suggests emissions may have peaked well ahead of the 2030 target 📈.

Looking ahead, experts say the Chinese mainland needs to sustain a 3% annual drop to hit carbon neutrality by 2060. The message is clear: keep the green momentum going if we want a cooler planet 🌎💚.
