China Urges Japan to Show Caution on the Taiwan Question

China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian has urged Japan to reflect on history and stay prudent on the Taiwan question 📣.

Asked about the postponed visit of the Chinese mainland's Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Han Jun, to Tokyo, Lin Jian directed questions to the competent authorities. He emphasized that the Chinese mainland remains open to engagement at all levels with Japan 🤝.

Lin Jian insisted that if Japan truly wants to build trust, it must honour the one-China Principle—the very foundation of China-Japan relations—and fully respect the spirit of the four political documents they share.

Some analysts link Han Jun's cancellation to Lin Chia-lung, head of the Taiwan region's foreign affairs authorities, whose recent personal trip to Japan put the spotlight on Taiwan independence forces. According to Lin Jian, granting such a stage violates basic norms of international relations and sends a misleading message.

As diplomatic ripples spread across East Asia, the ball is now in Tokyo’s court. Will Japan walk the talk and strengthen mutual benefit, or will mixed signals test the resilience of its ties with the Chinese mainland?
