On Thursday in Anning City, Yunnan Province, on the Chinese mainland, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi hosted an informal tea 🌿 session with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa. The goal? To cool down rising tensions over the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict and kickstart fresh dialogue.
This meet-up happened on the sidelines of the 10th Foreign Ministers' Meeting of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation. Foreign ministers from Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam also joined the regional gathering, reflecting a shared interest in peace and cooperation along the Mekong River.
Wang Yi noted that neither Cambodia nor Thailand wants a drawn-out conflict. Both sides are ready to resume talks and improve relations. He highlighted that 'Anning' means peace, harmony and goodwill—perfect symbols for a meeting aimed at turning tension into trust ✌️.
As the tea leaves settled, Wang expressed hope that Cambodia and Thailand will send a 'voice of peace' from Anning, proving that even complex disputes can be tackled one cup at a time ☕️🌏.
