Gansu’s Yuzhong Reopens Roads and Restores Power After Mountain Torrents

Last week, torrential rains pummeled Yuzhong County in northwest China's Gansu Province, turning the hills into rushing rivers of mud and debris. Between Thursday evening and Friday noon, some areas saw over 220 mm of rain 🌧️, triggering dangerous mountain torrents that swept through roads, villages, and power lines.

After 13 lives were lost and 30 people still unaccounted for, more than 700 rescuers and over 200 machines raced against time to clear debris. On Sunday, transport authorities in Lanzhou announced that the key roads leading to the hardest-hit zones were officially reopened.

Meanwhile, the State Grid Gansu Electric Power Company worked around the clock to bring back electricity. With 73 rescue vehicles, 42 generators, and three power ships deployed, plus 330 repair crew members, power returned to homes on Saturday night ⚡.

Hope remains high as search and rescue teams continue combing the area for those still missing. The swift response—from clearing roads to restoring power—shows how communities and authorities in northwest China's Gansu Province are working together to rebuild and recover.

Yuzhong County's comeback reminds us that even the strongest torrent can't break community spirit 💪.
