Heavy Rain & Winds: Weather Alerts Hit Chinese Provinces

Heavy rain and severe weather are set to hit over ten provinces in the Chinese mainland as yellow alerts for rainstorms have been issued by China's National Meteorological Center. From Sunday 2 p.m. to Monday 2 p.m., regions including Heilongjiang, Jilin, Shanxi, Hebei, Guangxi, Guangdong, and Yunnan may experience relentless downpours.

In eastern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, northwestern Guangdong, and parts of the eastern coast, rainfall could spike dramatically – with accumulations reaching 250 to 320 millimeters! Expect short bursts of torrential rain, clocking in at 20-50 mm per hour, and sometimes even over 80 mm in localized bursts. 🌧️

Ahead of the storm, severe convective weather is also on the horizon. Strong gales and hail are forecast across various spots, with wind speeds potentially surpassing force 8, and in some areas like central Gansu, southeastern Fujian, and central Guangdong, they could even hit force 10.

In Hebei Province's Xinglong County, prolonged rainfall is expected over the next three days. In a proactive safety move, residents from seven villages in Liudaohe Town have been evacuated, with Liudaohe Middle School set up as a temporary shelter offering over 800 beds along with essential supplies.

Alerts for mountain torrents and geological hazards, such as landslides, mudslides, and flash floods, have also been issued in high-risk areas including parts of Gansu, Qinghai, Beijing, and southwestern provinces. Authorities remind everyone to steer clear of mountainous regions and river valleys to minimize potential risks.

Stay informed, be prepared, and don’t forget your umbrella – it's time to weather this storm together! ☔️
