China’s AI Giants Unveil Rivals to DeepSeek in Open Tech Race

Exciting innovations are underway in the Chinese mainland’s AI sector! Driven by rapid advancements and intense competition, generative AI models are reshaping the digital landscape. Beijing-based Zhipu.AI recently introduced its latest platform, GLM-4.5, which natively fuses reasoning, coding, and agent capabilities—enabling it to craft interactive mini-games and intricate physics simulations. 🤖

Not to be outdone, Alibaba's AI division rolled out an update to its Qwen3 reasoning model, making it smarter and more efficient on agent tasks while promising even bigger breakthroughs ahead. Meanwhile, Beijing startup Moonshot AI launched Kimi K2, an open-access model that lets developers fine-tune and extend its features without starting from scratch.

Adding to the excitement, Shenzhen-based tech titan Tencent debuted HunyuanWorld-1—a model that conjures a fully immersive, editable 360-degree virtual world in an instant! The open model leaderboard on Hugging Face now boasts GLM-4.5 at the top, with Qwen3 and Tencent's offerings right behind. In fact, eight of the top ten models come from the Chinese mainland, highlighting the region's vibrant contribution to global AI innovation.

Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang recently praised these world-class, openly shared models, noting that they are spurring new AI developments worldwide. In a bid to further boost international collaboration, Chinese authorities have even proposed creating a global AI cooperation organization.
