China Launches Nationwide Childcare Subsidies for Families

Exciting news for families in China! Starting in late August 2025, the Chinese mainland will introduce a nationwide childcare subsidy program. Under this new scheme, families will receive an annual subsidy of 3,600 yuan (about $500) per child until the age of three. This support applies to children born on or after January 1, 2025, and for those born before that date (if still under three), subsidies will be calculated on a prorated basis. 👶💰

The initiative, expected to benefit more than 20 million families, comes at a time when birth rates have been on a decline for seven consecutive years, with a modest rebound in 2024. Designed to ease the burden on working parents and encourage higher birth rates, the program allows either parent or a legal guardian to apply. Applications will be convenient, available online via the national childcare subsidy information system or through designated offline channels. This dynamic policy marks a significant step towards supporting family growth and strengthening community well-being.
