China Dominates Global AI with 1,509 Models

At the 2025 World AI Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai, China set a new benchmark by releasing 1,509 large AI models – the highest count globally. This record-breaker shines a spotlight on a booming AI ecosystem that is rapidly evolving and redefining technology worldwide.

According to data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), the Chinese mainland now hosts over 5,100 AI companies and 71 unicorns, fueling innovation in key fields such as large models, autonomous driving, intelligent robots, business intelligence, and AI computing chips. Industry experts, including CAICT president Yu Xiaohui, see this rapid iteration as a promising stride toward Artificial General Intelligence. 🚀🤖

Under the theme "Global Solidarity in the AI Era," the three-day WAIC – along with the High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance held concurrently in Shanghai – brought together high-level representatives from over 40 countries and international organizations. These discussions underscored the importance of continuous innovation and strategic investment as engines for high-quality economic and social development.
