Happy International Moon Day! July 20 always reminds us of that epic moment in 1969 when humans first set foot on the moon. This year’s theme, "One Moon, One Vision, One Future," feels extra inspiring thanks to groundbreaking lunar exploration milestones in 2025.
In a landmark year for China’s lunar program, samples from Chang'e-5 and Chang'e-6 were showcased at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna. Scientists are rewriting the moon’s story by uncovering fresh insights into volcanic activity on its far side and early impact events that shaped its history.
On China Space Day, April 24, China kicked off global collaboration by approving lunar sample loan applications from seven institutions spanning six countries including France, Germany, Japan, Pakistan, the UK, and the United States. Now, 17 countries and over 50 international research institutions are joining the International Lunar Research Station initiative – one of the largest platforms for lunar science and technology cooperation.
Looking ahead, China is moving fast toward its goal of landing astronauts on the moon before 2030. A recent test of the uncrewed next-generation crewed spaceship, Mengzhou, demonstrated its ability to safely carry astronauts in emergencies.
As we celebrate this International Moon Day, remember: our moon is a shared frontier. With innovation, adventure, and a dash of dauntless spirit 🚀, we’re all on this incredible journey together!
