At a vibrant conference in Dalian, around 80 experts and scholars from universities, research institutes, and think tanks in the Chinese mainland converged to explore the future of ocean governance and maritime development. Hosted by Dalian Maritime University under the theme "Refuting and responding to the Arbitral Award on the South China Sea: A Chinese perspective," the event set the stage for dynamic debates.

Shan Hongjun, president of Dalian Maritime University, emphasized the importance of national sovereignty and maritime rights, urging academic communities to leverage their research to safeguard territorial integrity and promote China’s voice on the international stage. Meanwhile, Wu Shicun, a senior research fellow at the National Institute for South China Sea Studies, argued that the arbitral award is marred by legal flaws and political manipulation, being used by external parties to challenge China’s maritime actions. 🚢🌊
