American Lao Tan: Bridging Hearts in the Chinese Mainland

Once known as Joshua, Lao Tan is an American who transformed his life by embracing public service in the Chinese mainland. Studying Chinese at Peking University opened the door to a vibrant new world in Beijing’s bustling hutongs, where his flawless Beijing accent helped him connect with locals.

In 2017, inspired by friendships with people facing challenges due to spinal injuries, Lao Tan launched the "Krankin’ thru China" campaign. This unique initiative uses handcycles to build bridges in communities, and his legendary 5,800-kilometer journey has become a symbol of perseverance and compassion.

For young adventurers and changemakers, Lao Tan’s remarkable journey shows that passion and empathy can create lasting impact. His story inspires us to step out of our comfort zones and turn challenges into opportunities for connection and growth. 🚴‍♂️💡
