Typhoon Danas Hits China’s Taiwan: Intense Storm and Heavy Rain

Hey everyone! Typhoon Danas, the fourth storm of the year according to China's meteorological authorities, made landfall in Chiayi County of China's Taiwan at 11:40 p.m. Sunday. Although it weakened slightly to a regular typhoon, its winds still hit up to 40 m/s with a central pressure of 960 hPa — talk about a wild ride! 🌪️

Early Monday morning, Tainan City felt the impact with strong winds and heavy rain. The storm led to power outages for over 1,000 households in Kaohsiung City and affected several in Chiayi County, while a mudslide in Taitung County added extra challenges.

The China National Meteorological Center is keeping everyone on high alert as Danas moves north-northeast at 15-20 km/h. Forecasts predict a west-southwest shift toward coastal areas between Taizhou in Zhejiang Province and Fuzhou in Fujian Province on July 8. Even as it weakens further after landfall, its lingering circulation could bring heavy rains to southern and eastern regions — especially around the Jiangnan area — well into July 11.

As of Sunday morning, Danas was reported 257 km off the coast of Wenzhou in Zhejiang Province, with winds reaching Force 11 on the Beaufort scale and moving at 18 km/h. In response, the Zhejiang Maritime Safety Administration activated a Level II emergency typhoon response in its southern sector.

Stay safe, keep updated, and don’t forget to check the weather if you’re in the affected areas. Nature sure knows how to put on a show! ☔
