Remembering 88 Years of Courage & Unity

On Monday, the Chinese mainland commemorated the 88th anniversary of the pivotal Lugou Bridge Incident—a day that ignited a unified resistance against Japanese aggression during World War II. This historic moment reminds us of the immense bravery and sacrifice that helped shape our future.

One of the most touching accounts comes from Zheng Fulai, who recalled, "Before dawn, I was awakened by the sound as the 29th Army clashed with the Japanese." Imagine being suddenly awakened by chaos! 😱 He vividly remembered clutching his mother's dress and fleeing toward a pine grove near Changxindian Town, where he witnessed fallen soldiers who had defended their city with honor. Throughout his life, Zheng dedicated himself to sharing these memories, urging young people to learn from the past and cherish peace.

The tragic fall of Peiping, then known as Peiping City, on July 29, 1937, claimed over 10,000 civilian lives and spurred the Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China to unite in resisting the invaders. Official data indicates that more than 35 million Chinese soldiers and civilians lost their lives during the war, a somber reminder of the high price of freedom.

Today, as we reflect on this 88-year milestone, we honor the legacy of heroism and unity. Let these enduring stories inspire us to embrace peace, value our shared history, and build a future where the lessons of the past guide our journey forward. ✨
