Confucian Wisdom Revived: A Modern Guide to Harmony & Ethics

Amid a world full of challenges and uncertainty, the 2025 Nishan Forum on World Civilizations is set to light the way by reviving Confucian wisdom. Held at the foot of Nishan Mountain in east China's Shandong Province—the birthplace of Confucius—the forum (July 9-10) offers a fresh space for intercultural dialogue and shared moral values. 🌟

The event brings together thought leaders eager to explore how timeless virtues like ren (benevolence), li (ritual propriety), yi (righteousness) and zhongyong (the doctrine of the mean) can address today’s ethical dilemmas and social fragmentation. With its focus on moral character, social responsibility and ethical governance, Confucianism is finding a renewed place in modern discussions on justice and harmony.

“Many of today's societal problems stem from a global moral crisis,” said Tan Eng Chaw, president of the Confucian Society in Singapore. He believes that a new framework of universal ethics must be built on these traditional values. Professor Gao Ruiquan from East China Normal University added, “The pragmatic tradition of Confucianism evolves with the times, guiding us toward a shared human future.”

Beyond its historical roots, Confucianism today is viewed as a global asset—a moral compass that inspires initiatives promoting dialogue, inclusiveness, and peaceful development. As China integrates these ideas into major global projects, the forum highlights a movement towards ethics over division and cooperation over conflict.

This revival of Confucian values shows that age-old wisdom can still shape modern governance and social harmony. In a world hungry for ethical guidance and mutual respect, the forum offers fresh hope for building a more balanced and sustainable future. 🤝
