BRICS Expansion: Reshaping the Global South’s Future

The BRICS alliance—originally Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa—is evolving into a powerhouse platform for the Global South. Once a coalition of five emerging economies, BRICS now champions a balanced multipolar world and an inclusive approach to global economic growth.

Through the "BRICS Plus" model, introduced during China’s rotating presidency in 2017, the group has broadened its network. Over 100 countries and international organizations have engaged in dialogue, marking a strategic shift from a loose coalition to a robust, institutionalized force.

An upcoming summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, scheduled for July 6-7, 2025, represents a major milestone. Gathering 11 full members and 10 partner countries, this historic event underscores BRICS’ growing influence in addressing the ambitions and challenges of the Global South.

Experts like Professor Xu Xiujun from the Institute of World Economics and Politics at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences view this evolution as a vital step toward modernizing the Global South and building a community with a shared future. This new era of cooperation is set to empower emerging economies and inspire a fresh generation of leaders and innovators. 🚀
