Belgian PM & Chinese FM Forge Stronger EU-China Cooperation

Belgium's Prime Minister Bart De Wever met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Brussels on Tuesday, underscoring the importance of friendly exchanges to boost EU-China cooperation.

During the meeting, De Wever shared how his numerous visits to China left him impressed by the country’s development achievements. He highlighted that despite different perspectives, maintaining open dialogue and building mutual trust are key in today’s complex geopolitical landscape.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, emphasized Belgium’s unique role as a founding EU member and the home of the EU headquarters. He noted that China values the rational and pragmatic approach of Belgium's new government and is committed to furthering the longstanding friendship and cooperative partnership between the two sides.

The meeting also comes at a significant moment as it marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the EU. Wang Yi reiterated China's commitment to high-quality development and high-level open policies, welcoming greater economic collaboration between Belgian companies and the Chinese market.
