China Launches Suhai-1: Smart Aquaculture Revolution

In an exciting leap forward for aquaculture, China delivered Suhai-1, the world’s first smart offshore aquaculture vessel, this Thursday in Guangzhou City. This technological marvel combines fish breeding, harvesting, and on-board processing into one mobile unit 🚢🐟.

Weighing in with a staggering displacement of 132,000 tonnes—comparable to two medium-sized aircraft carriers—Suhai-1 features 15 aquaculture cabins holding a total of 83,000 cubic meters of water (about 33 international standard swimming pools!).

The vessel is equipped with a centralized automated feeding system that handles everything from storage to distribution, making smart, on-the-go decisions to ensure efficiency. Unlike traditional stationary net-cage systems, Suhai-1 cruises at speeds up to 18 km/h, allowing it to quickly shift to safer waters during typhoons or red tides 🌊.

Designed with the needs of deep-sea salmon in mind, the vessel will soon navigate to the cold-water mass in the Yellow Sea, maintaining the optimal temperature range of 10-18°C. By traveling with the fish to favorable environments, Suhai-1 represents a revolutionary shift in offshore fish farming, setting the stage for a sustainable and dynamic future in the industry.
