Typhoon Wutip Set to Hit Hainan: Strong Winds & Heavy Rains Ahead

Typhoon Wutip, the year's first storm for the Chinese mainland, is already making headlines. According to China's National Meteorological Center (NMC), the typhoon is expected to make its first landfall between Lingshui and Ledong in Hainan Province during the early hours of Friday.

Chief forecaster Zhang Ling explained at a press briefing that the storm is forecast to reach strong tropical storm intensity, with winds ranging from 25 to 28 meters per second. This powerful force has led authorities to take action, including halting railway services on Hainan Island since 4 p.m. on Thursday to ensure public safety. Many residents can expect train operations to resume by Saturday.

The adventure of Typhoon Wutip does not stop there. A second landfall is anticipated along the coast stretching from western Guangdong Province to the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Saturday. After that, the typhoon will move northeast with its strength gradually diminishing.

In addition to the wind, meteorologists warn of heavy rainfall. The heaviest rains are projected between June 13 and 14, with some areas in Hainan, eastern Guangxi, Guangdong, southern Hunan, and southern Jiangxi expecting between 100 to 300 millimeters. Certain regions could even see up to 400-700 millimeters of accumulated precipitation, making it a significant weather event.
