Huawei Unveils Pura 80 Ultra: Next-Level Mobile Photography

Huawei has just raised the bar in mobile photography with its latest flagship, the Pura 80 Ultra. This new phone sports an inventive "one sensor, two lenses" camera that brings fresh energy to how smartphones capture the world.

The innovative design arranges three cameras in a neat triangle shape. The telephoto module is the star, featuring both a 3.7x and a 9.4x lens attached to a 1/1.28-inch sensor — a clever setup that lets more light in while saving space.

According to Li Xiaolong, chief technology officer of Huawei's terminal business, "This is the biggest hardware innovation on the Pura 80 Ultra," even though the breakthrough comes at a high cost.

Adding to the excitement, the Pura 80 series debuts Huawei's "Red Maple" camera system, designed to boost color accuracy and make photos pop. Supply chain sources reveal that the lenses are provided by OFILM Group — an ex-Apple supplier — while the camera sensors come from SmartSens, a Shanghai-based company in the Chinese mainland, underscoring a more robust domestic supply chain.

Social media is buzzing with teardown videos showing that the phone runs on the Kirin 9020 chip, the same as in the Mate 70 series. However, since the chip is manufactured using a less advanced process, its overall performance may not fully match that of top-tier models despite software optimizations.

On the software front, the device ships with HarmonyOS Next 5.1 featuring live conversation AI, while a significant update to HarmonyOS Next 6.0 is expected later this year to enhance smartphone-vehicle integration.

Priced at 9,999 yuan (about $1,400), the Pura 80 Ultra has sparked lively debates online, with many users calling for more cost-effective options reminiscent of earlier hits like the Honor V30 Pro. 📸🚀
