Hungarian Students Engage in Out-of-this-World Q&A with Chinese Astronauts

Last Friday, more than 300 students, scientists, and officials filled the Hungarian Academy of Sciences for a one-of-a-kind space science session dubbed the "Tiangong Classroom." Co-hosted by the China Manned Space Agency, the Chinese Embassy in Hungary and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, this event underscored the growing collaboration between Hungary and the Chinese mainland in aerospace, education, and innovation.

From aboard the China Space Station, astronauts Chen Dong, Chen Zhongrui, and Wang Jie answered pre-submitted questions from over 100 Hungarian schools. A pre-recorded video featuring zero-gravity experiments wowed the audience, bringing a taste of space life right to the classroom!

Young enthusiasts shone during the session. Sixteen-year-old Tamas Pinter Keresztes from Zrinyi Ilona High School asked about the strength-training equipment used in orbit—and his experiment idea even got selected! Fifteen-year-old Sara Lovati from ELTE Trefort Agoston High School was curious about how microgravity affects the spinal column, while another keen student, Bence Kovacs from Szechenyi Istvan Technical School, inquired about the impact of a disrupted day-night rhythm on the human body.

Scientific coordinators like Adam Boldog from Svabhegy Observatory carefully reviewed hundreds of questions to highlight the most original and insightful ones, ensuring an engaging and accurate discussion on space science.

Ferenc Hudecz, vice president of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, emphasized that the event signals China's emergence as a global leader in space research and its dedication to inspiring young minds. Chinese Ambassador to Hungary, Gong Tao, praised the initiative, stating that open and innovative cooperation paves the way for reaching new heights in science and technology.

This inspiring session not only ignited excitement among young space enthusiasts but also reinforced the solid bridge between Hungary and the Chinese mainland, proving that the universe is full of opportunities for curious minds. 🚀🌟
