Continuous heavy rains in southwest China's Yunnan Province have turned into a challenging ordeal for thousands. In Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, nearly 6,000 residents from 1,652 households faced severe impacts, with 27 houses damaged and 16 bridges destroyed or impaired. Roads at 97 locations have been disrupted, forcing local authorities to temporarily close a popular scenic spot and a sightseeing platform.
Meanwhile, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture is grappling with landslides, mudslides, and flash floods that have blocked multiple roads. Dense fog added to the difficulty, leading to the temporary closure of the Meri Snow Mountain scenic zone and the evacuation of 300 tourists. Local teams, including fire departments and transport workers, have been busy evacuating residents and repairing damaged roadways.
Emergency services have relocated a total of 1,797 residents in Nujiang, and crews rescued 138 people and safely relocated another 331 in Deqen County. Although no fatalities have been reported so far, meteorological authorities warn that more heavy rains are expected, keeping the risks of landslides and flash floods high. ⚠️💦
This unfolding situation serves as a reminder of nature's unpredictable power and the importance of community resilience. Let’s send our thoughts and support to all those affected, and stay alert as relief efforts continue! 🙏
