Small School, Big Unity: Children’s Day Joy in Miao Village

In a heartwarming display of unity, children in Wuying Miao Village – a charming community nestled in the mountains along the border of Guizhou and Guangxi – gathered on Wednesday to celebrate the upcoming International Children's Day. Despite the village having 145 households (104 officially part of Guangxi and 41 from Guizhou), its residents live, work, and celebrate together in perfect harmony.

The local school may be small, with two classes for first and second graders totaling only 13 students, but it overflows with big dreams and cultural pride. With 7 first graders and 6 second graders (8 from Guangxi and 5 from Guizhou), the school offers a full curriculum that goes beyond basic subjects like Chinese, math, and art. It also introduces the little ones to physical education, health and safety, and traditional cultural programs such as lusheng, a traditional reed-pipe instrument, and Miao folk singing. This blend of modern education and rich heritage gives the children a unique learning experience and a strong sense of community identity.

The festive activities not only bring joy and excitement for International Children's Day but also underscore the strength of unity across regional lines. In a world where differences often create divides, Wuying Miao Village is a shining example of how cultural diversity can be celebrated with laughter, music, and a shared sense of belonging. 🎉👫
