The China Search and Rescue Team and the China International Search and Rescue Team have achieved a major milestone, earning reclassification from the United Nations International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) Heavy Urban Search and Rescue. This success cements their role as top responders in crisis situations worldwide.
On Thursday in Beijing, the certification ceremony was held with notable figures in attendance. China's Vice Minister of Emergency Management Xu Jia'ai and Sarah Muscroft from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs marked the occasion, celebrating China as the first Asian country with two INSARAG-certified heavy urban search and rescue teams. This means the teams are now fully equipped to operate at both domestic and international levels under global standards. 💪
From May 27 to 28, 18 international evaluators from 14 countries put the teams through rigorous earthquake rescue drills lasting over 40 hours. With experts including members of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region rescue team and various social emergency forces on hand, the assessment confirmed that the teams meet the world-class requirements set by INSARAG.
Xu Jia'ai highlighted that the Chinese government always prioritizes international humanitarian rescue efforts. He expressed hope that this reclassification will further sharpen the teams' readiness and strengthen their capabilities, enabling them to respond efficiently to emergencies both at home and abroad.
Sarah Muscroft, who presented the certificates, praised the teams for their outstanding performance and acknowledged China's vital contribution to international humanitarian efforts. She remarked, "For us in the United Nations, we very much value the leadership role that China plays not just in the region but within the INSARAG network." 🚀
This achievement not only bolsters China's emergency response credentials but also sets a promising example for global cooperation in disaster management. It highlights a future where coordinated international efforts continue to save lives and build safer communities across the globe.
