Wang Yi Champions a Shared Future with PICs

In a move resonating with fresh energy and commitment, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday co-chaired the Third China-Pacific Island Countries (PICs) Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Xiamen, southeast China's Fujian Province. Alongside Kiribati's President and Foreign Minister Taneti Maamau, Wang Yi highlighted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations with the PICs, a milestone celebrating decades of friendship and partnership.

Wang Yi emphasized that the Chinese approach is rooted in mutual respect and non-interference, urging all partners to safeguard their sovereignty, security, and development interests. He described the PICs as good friends, partners, and even brothers, adding a warm, human touch to international diplomacy. This sentiment has translated into fruitful cooperation that benefits the people of the PICs and contributes to regional peace, stability, and prosperity.

Looking toward future endeavors, Wang Yi revealed plans to bolster collaboration in areas such as agriculture, fishery technologies, tourism, and healthcare. Under initiatives like the Global Development Initiative and high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, China will accelerate negotiations for bilateral free trade agreements and share valuable experiences in poverty alleviation and grassroots governance. This year, 200 “small and beautiful” livelihood projects will be implemented and 56 medical staff—spanning several specialties including traditional Chinese medicine—will be dispatched in seven batches, all aimed at boosting the well-being of PICs communities.

The lively spirit of this initiative is like a modern-day friendship anthem, inspiring a generation that values genuine cooperation and shared success. 🚀 As young people around the world connect with fresh ideas and cultural exchanges, stories like these remind us that unity can spark positive change across regions.
