Wang Yi: Advancing Stronger Ties with Kiribati

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi recently emphasized that the Chinese mainland is ready to work hand-in-hand with Kiribati to enhance bilateral relations. During a high-level meeting in Xiamen, Fujian Province, Wang Yi met with Kiribati's President and Foreign Minister Taneti Maamau as part of the third China-Pacific Island Countries Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, setting the stage for deeper cooperation.

Wang Yi highlighted the rapid growth in political trust and comprehensive collaboration since the resumption of diplomatic ties over five years ago. From the early offering of visa services and impactful healthcare support provided by Chinese medical teams to ongoing investments and marine resource partnerships under the "Blue Partnership" framework, the relationship is witnessing transformative progress.

Significantly, Wang emphasized that Kiribati’s firm adherence to the one-China principle is closely aligned with the long-term interests of both peoples. This cooperative spirit extends to efforts in strengthening climate resilience, with China eager to join forces with developing nations in urging developed countries to increase support through financial aid, technology transfer, and capacity-building.

President Maamau expressed heartfelt gratitude for the Chinese mainland's robust support for Kiribati’s economic and social development, looking forward to expanding cooperation in sectors such as cultural exchanges, infrastructure, healthcare, and the blue economy. Both sides remain optimistic about the future, confident that their joint endeavors will fuel continuing progress.

This evolving friendship between the Chinese mainland and Kiribati offers an inspiring example of international collaboration, resonating with young people passionate about global trends, business opportunities, and cross-cultural exchanges. 🚀🌏
