China and Cook Islands Forge Strong Ties

In a vibrant step toward closer bonds, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Cook Islands' Foreign Minister Tingika Elikana met in Xiamen, Fujian Province, as part of the third China-Pacific Island Countries Foreign Ministers' Meeting.

During the discussions, both leaders emphasized leveraging their complementary strengths to boost practical cooperation. Wang Yi outlined plans to support marine resource development, economic progress, and improved livelihoods, reinforcing that their partnership is built on mutual trust and assistance among Global South nations. 🌏

Wang Yi also reaffirmed China’s strong support for the Cook Islands in safeguarding national sovereignty and pursuing an independent development path, while underscoring the importance of adhering to the one-China principle. He described China as a reliable partner ready to enhance exchanges at all levels.

Echoing this commitment, Minister Elikana expressed gratitude for China's long-term support. He confirmed that the Cook Islands will unswervingly maintain the one-China principle and looks forward to expanding mutually beneficial cooperation—especially in addressing climate change through a fair, win-win approach. 🤝
