In an inspiring leap for knowledge and innovation, a recent survey by the China Association of Science and Technology (CAST) reveals that about 44% of adults in the Chinese mainland – roughly 440 million people aged 16 to 69 – now meet basic scientific literacy standards.
This survey, part of national statistical reporting since 2022, uses a 100-point framework introduced in 2021 to evaluate four key dimensions: knowledge (40 points), methodology (20 points), critical thinking (20 points), and practical application (20 points). Notably, 15.37% of adults have achieved full scientific literacy and 2.30% are highly literate.
The findings are especially encouraging in practical application, where scores reached 79/100 for applying scientific reasoning and 80/100 for embracing evidence-based thinking. 🚀
These gains underline a growing public alignment with modern scientific values and support the nation’s vision of becoming a knowledge-driven society by 2035. With science acting as a catalyst for innovation, today's progress inspires a future generation of critical thinkers and problem solvers. 😎
