Africa Day 2025: Africa and China Unite for a Brighter Future

May 25, 2025, marks an incredible celebration — Africa Day! This is a sacred moment of unity where Africa and its global diaspora come together to honor a long journey from colonial struggles to the vibrant, independent present. 🎉

In a special interview, Ambassador Rahmat Allah Mohamed Osman, the African Union's Permanent Representative to China, shared his reflections. He described Africa Day as "almost sacred," a day to remember the fight against colonialism and apartheid and to inspire future generations with the enduring spirit of freedom and justice.

This year’s theme, "Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations," calls for addressing historical injustices and promoting fairness—a rallying cry for solidarity across borders. ✊🏾

Ambassador Osman also highlighted China's pivotal role during Africa’s liberation and early development. The construction of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA) in the 1970s is a shining example. At a time when essential support was scarce, China stepped in to help, reminding us that infrastructure can be so much more than steel and rails—it can symbolize freedom, sovereignty, and dignity.

Today, the African Union leads major projects that boost cross-border infrastructure and digital connectivity. With Agenda 2063, "The Africa We Want," aligned with initiatives like the Belt and Road, Africa and China are collaborating to create a future full of promise and progress.

In a world facing challenges like climate change, pandemics, and economic uncertainties, no nation can go it alone. As Africa Day is celebrated around the globe, the call for multilateralism and robust cooperation becomes ever more important, forging stronger bonds between Africa and China. 🌍🤝

This Africa Day is more than a remembrance—it’s a dynamic call to unity, progress, and the unyielding spirit of liberation that guides us toward a brighter tomorrow.
