In a dazzling display of strength and resilience, Li Dayin of the Chinese mainland rocked the Asian Weightlifting Championships held in Quzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province, on Monday. Battling fierce competition and a severe back injury, Li lifted 170 kg and then 176 kg in the snatch to claim the gold medal in the men’s 89kg category. 💪
Despite the injury limiting his clean & jerk to 203 kg – enough only for bronze in that round and a silver overall with a total of 379 kg – his performance inspired many young athletes. The competition heated up as Ro Kwang Ryol of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea delivered a standout 168 kg in the snatch and dominated the clean & jerk with 212 kg, earning overall gold with a total of 380 kg.
Adding to the excitement, 19-year-old teammate Pan Yunhua showcased his talent by lifting 163 kg in the snatch and an impressive 209 kg in the clean & jerk, setting a new Asian junior record and earning silver in the clean & jerk along with bronze overall. 🏅
Meanwhile, the men's 81kg division offered its own thrilling moments. China's Luo Chongyang opened strong with a 160 kg snatch and rebounded with 162 kg to clinch the snatch gold by a whisker over Indonesia's Rizki Juniansyah. South Korea's Son Hyeon-ho then electrified the arena by becoming the first to hit 200 kg in the clean & jerk, earning gold in that lift, while Luo's steady performance secured him overall gold with a total of 362 kg.
This incredible day at the championships truly showcased the spirit, hard work, and determination of these young athletes—an inspiration to sports fans and aspiring champions everywhere. 🌟
