Developing Countries Unite Amid Global Trade Tensions

In the vibrant city of Geneva, delegates from over 30 developing countries and international organizations gathered for a dynamic dialogue amid rising global trade tensions. The meeting, co-hosted by the Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations Office in Geneva and the South Center, set the stage for powerful discussions on how to overcome economic challenges and foster closer cooperation. ⚡

Chen Xu, China's permanent representative to the UN Office in Geneva, highlighted that U.S. "reciprocal tariffs" are classic examples of unilateral and protectionist practices that limit growth opportunities for developing countries and disrupt the global economic and trade order. His comments underscored a shared passion for an open, win-win approach to trade.

Wu Hailong, board member of the South Center and president of the China Public Diplomacy Association, added that such tariffs have not only hampered trade and economic growth but have also unsettled industrial supply chains and financial markets. His call for enhanced cooperation struck a chord with many, reinforcing the idea that unity is key to turning obstacles into opportunities.

The dialogue concluded with a unanimous agreement among the delegates to boost South-South trade cooperation in pursuit of sustainable development and the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda. The spirit of solidarity was palpable, much like a well-coordinated team-up in your favorite blockbuster film! 🎬

This collaborative pursuit marks an important milestone in the journey toward a more interconnected and resilient global economy.
