Hong Kong’s talent scene is buzzing! Over the past two years, more than 53,000 applications under the Admission Scheme for Mainland Talents and Professionals (ASMTP) have rolled in, with nearly 90% approval. That means almost 47,000 skilled individuals from the Chinese mainland have received the green light to work in Hong Kong. 😎
Similarly, the General Employment Policy (GEP) has seen over 67,000 applications with around 63,000 approvals. Under the ASMTP, about 46% of the approved spots are for short-term roles, while 54% are for long-term positions. In contrast, the GEP sees approximately 70% short-term assignments (less than 12 months) and 30% long-term opportunities (12 months or more). This mix helps fill vacancies rapidly and keeps local enterprises competitive.
Breaking it down further, long-term positions under the ASMTP have mainly been in commerce and trade, followed by roles in financial services and academic research and education. For the GEP, most long-term approvals are linked to Hong Kong’s vibrant tourism industry, with a strong showing in education and financial services as well.
When it comes to remuneration, most approved talents are earning a monthly salary between 20,000 and 39,999 Hong Kong dollars (roughly US$2,578 to US$5,155), with another group falling in the 40,000 to 79,999 range. These figures reflect a dynamic job market aimed at meeting Hong Kong’s developmental needs.
This robust performance of both employment schemes highlights Hong Kong’s commitment to attracting top-notch talent from the Chinese mainland and overseas, ensuring a diverse and competitive workforce for the future. 🚀
