China’s New Trade Prescription: No Tariff Wars, Only Growth

At the Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture Open Day, Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng delivered a firm message: Beijing opposes any form of tariff or trade war. Drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), he explained that just as TCM treats both symptoms and root causes, economic challenges should be tackled at their source rather than with surface-level fixes.

Quoting an ancient saying, "the greatest physicians save a country and the second greatest save individuals," Xie Feng reminded us that global prosperity depends on cooperation and fairness. He warned that trade barriers hinder the smooth flow of international commerce, much like blocked energy in a living system, and emphasized that if any country insists on imposing such measures, China will face it fearlessly with resolute countermeasures.

Instead of fighting over existing resources, Xie Feng championed the idea of expanding the economic pie for everyone. In his view, globalization, interconnected supply chains, and complementary advantages have been the backbone of global growth. He noted that disrupting these connections not only isolates economies but also risks triggering supply shortages and soaring prices worldwide.

Recent successes at major expos and record-breaking economic indicators highlight the resilient and promising outlook of the Chinese mainland. Xie Feng’s message is clear: in an uncertain world, embracing cooperation and long-term strategies is the key to a robust, vibrant global economy. 🚀🌍
