China-Laos Railway Boosts Cross-Border Travel with 487K Passengers

The China-Laos Railway is on a roll, connecting cultures and fueling regional progress! In just two years, this dynamic rail service has transported 487,000 cross-border passengers from 112 countries and regions, according to China Railway Kunming Group Co., Ltd.

Spanning 1,035 km between Kunming in southwest China's Yunnan Province and Vientiane in Laos, the railway—an important flagship project under the Belt and Road Initiative—has quickly become a favorite travel option for explorers and adventurers alike.

Launched on April 13, 2023, the international passenger service has ramped up its game. For example, trains between Xishuangbanna and Luang Prabang now run six days a week (excluding Wednesdays), and the seating capacity per train has jumped from 250 to 390! Daily passenger numbers have soared from 300 to a peak of 1,300, making this journey not only faster but also more efficient.

Travelers can now enjoy a reduced trip time—from Kunming South station to Vientiane station—in about 9 hours and 30 minutes, down by one hour. Even customs procedures got a speed boost, with wait times dropping from 90 minutes to just 50 minutes. At the Mohan border checkpoint, multilingual police officers are ready to assist with local customs, laws, tourism tips, and even recommendations on delicious local cuisine.

This innovative service is more than just a train ride—it’s a bridge that brings people together, enhances economic ties, and offers a smooth, enjoyable travel experience. Whether you’re a travel enthusiast, a young professional eager to seize new opportunities, or a student curious about international trends, the China-Laos Railway is setting new standards in cross-border travel. All aboard for the adventure! 🚆🌏
