Sanchez’s 3rd Chinese Mainland Visit: Boosting Spain Ties

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is set to embark on his third visit to the Chinese mainland from Thursday to Friday, marking another step in deepening ties between Spain and the Chinese mainland. This dynamic two-day trip comes at a time when bilateral trade and cultural exchanges are booming, creating exciting prospects in global diplomacy. 😊

During his visit, Sanchez will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and engage in talks with Premier Li Qiang. Both sides aim to foster strategic mutual trust, unlock new market opportunities, and drive projects in technology, culture, education, and green development.

The trip also celebrates key milestones: the 20th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Spain and the Chinese mainland, and the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Chinese mainland and the European Union. These anniversaries highlight a strong foundation and a promising future of collaboration.

Bilateral trade has surged in recent years, growing from $37.9 billion in 2020 to $48.6 billion in 2023. A notable example is the joint venture in Barcelona between Chinese carmaker Chery Automobile and Spanish group Ebro-EV Motors, which is spearheading electric vehicle production and generating local jobs.

In the face of global economic challenges and evolving trade policies, Sanchez has called on the EU to revisit its relationship with the Chinese mainland. Emphasis was also placed on the importance of safeguarding free and open trade, stabilizing supply chains, and promoting a balanced multilateral order.

This visit not only underscores economic progress but also sets a new stage for international cooperation. Stay tuned as this exciting chapter unfolds, promising fresh opportunities in trade, culture, and global partnerships!
