Zhangzhou Nuclear Plant’s No.2 Unit Passes Hot Test, Fuel Loading Next

The No.2 Unit at the Zhangzhou nuclear power plant – part of the world's largest Hualong-1 reactor base – has successfully completed its hot functional test. This crucial step simulates real operating conditions, verifying the performance of both nuclear and conventional systems under thermal stress, and now sets the stage for fuel loading and grid connection.

Chief Engineer Mei Bingyun of China National Nuclear Corporation Zhangzhou Energy Co., Ltd. explained, "Hot functional test of the No. 2 Unit of Zhangzhou nuclear power plant has been completed. Subsequently, we will proceed with fuel loading and grid connection as planned." The unit is on track to begin commercial operation in the fourth quarter of this year.

Already, the No.1 Unit is in commercial operation while construction for units 3 and 4 started in 2024. Once fully operational, the plant will boast a total capacity of approximately 7.2 million kilowatts, with each unit expected to generate over 10 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually. This achievement marks a significant milestone for China’s homegrown nuclear technology and its contribution to low-carbon energy goals.

For tech enthusiasts and future-forward minds alike, this breakthrough is as exciting as a blockbuster premiere—ushering in a new era of clean, reliable energy. ⚛️🚀 Stay tuned for more electrifying updates on the energy frontier!
