Meet Zhang Chengjing, a remarkable school founder whose inspiring journey is transforming support for children with autism in Handan, Hebei Province on the Chinese mainland. Her story is one of resilience, sacrifice, and hope.
It all began in 2008 when her first child was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Faced with overwhelming challenges, Zhang could have felt lost. Instead, she turned her personal struggle into a mission to empower other children with autism, igniting a movement that has grown over the past 16 years.
Every March, Zhang’s schedule fills up as she organizes events in Handan to mark World Autism Awareness Day on April 2. These events have been crucial in spreading awareness about ASD while offering much-needed care and understanding to countless families.
Driven by determination, Zhang founded a special education school to provide early intervention. To get the project off the ground, she sold her house, took out loans, and rallied support from compassionate donors. Every milestone—like a child uttering their first word or learning a simple skill—made every sacrifice worth it.
Today, Zhang’s vision has expanded into multiple centers offering rehabilitation, day care, vocational training, and employment opportunities. More than 100 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities now learn and work in these centers, which also offer parents a peaceful place to take a break.
This extraordinary journey reminds us that with courage and commitment, personal challenges can spark positive community change. Zhang Chengjing’s work continues to light the way for a brighter, more inclusive future for children with autism.
🔥 Every effort counts! Let’s keep the spirit of awareness and empowerment alive. 💪
