In a breakthrough update, health officials in the Chinese mainland have unveiled impressive progress in tackling tuberculosis (TB). Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012, both TB incidence and mortality have dropped by about 30%—a milestone that has caught many attention!
Officials pointed out that the annual decline in TB incidence in the Chinese mainland is twice the global average, while the treatment success rate has comfortably stayed above 90%, keeping TB mortality at a low level. This achievement comes just days after World Tuberculosis Day on March 24, when global efforts to fight TB were thrust into the spotlight.
Liu Qing, deputy director of the administration's Department of Infectious Disease Control, mentioned that the next step is to roll out the National Tuberculosis Prevention and Control Plan (2024-2030). The plan will focus on expanding proactive screenings, standardizing treatment protocols, and strengthening financial support to help ease patients' economic burdens. 🔍💪
While the World Health Organization’s 2024 Global Tuberculosis Report reminds us that TB remains one of the deadliest infectious diseases, this progress is a bright spot in the fight against the disease. Stay tuned as the Chinese mainland continues to innovate and lead in healthcare solutions! 🎉
