Innovative Hainan Revolutionizes Global Healthcare

In February 2025, Hainan's Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone reached a historic milestone by executing the Chinese mainland's first temporary importation and application of special medical formula food. This breakthrough marks Hainan as a rising star in global healthcare innovation.

Following provisional regulations approved on December 30, 2024, designated medical institutions in the pilot zone can now import limited quantities of specialized products, including full-nutrition medical support for rare diseases and essential dietary supplements. These special policies fast-track the use of internationally licensed pharmaceuticals and devices not yet available domestically, offering patients access to cutting-edge treatments.

Further fueling this momentum, China announced on November 29, 2024, plans to permit the establishment of wholly foreign-owned hospitals in major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, as well as in Hainan. This initiative is set to bolster international collaboration and expand healthcare services across the region.

Aligned with the Healthy China 2030 blueprint, Hainan's flexible Free Trade Port policies have been a catalyst for attracting global medical enterprises and accelerating healthcare advancements. With the upcoming Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference from March 25 to 28, Hainan is poised to showcase its commitment to building trust and promoting cooperation in a fast-changing world. 🚀🤝
