Consul Zhang Criticizes U.S. Fentanyl Tariffs on Chinese Imports

In a dynamic chat with the San Francisco Chronicle, Chinese Consul General Zhang Jianmin voiced strong concerns over the U.S. using the fentanyl issue as a pretext to impose tariffs on Chinese imports. His remarks underline how such measures could undermine the critical counter-narcotics cooperation between the two sides.

Zhang recalled that since 2019, China has implemented strict controls on the manufacturing, sale, use, and export of fentanyl. He pointed out that the current U.S. approach not only shifts blame unfairly but also risks harming the U.S. West Coast—a region that counts heavily on external trade.

Emphasizing that a trade war leaves no winners, Zhang warned that ordinary people will bear the brunt if tensions persist. He urged the U.S. side to return to reason and engage in a mutually respectful dialogue, hoping that cooler heads will prevail. 🤝✨
