Chinese FM Urges Diplomatic Talks on the Iran Nuclear Issue

In a bid to steer global diplomacy toward peace, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed the importance of resolving disputes over Iran's nuclear program through dialogue and diplomatic means, not through illegal unilateral sanctions or threats of force. During a recent tripartite meeting in Beijing with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Ryabkov and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Gharibabadi, Wang outlined a five-point keynote that highlights his vision for a secure and cooperative future. 🤝

The FM called on all parties involved to uphold a vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security. He urged everyone to actively create conditions that pave the way for dialogue and negotiations, while avoiding any actions that may escalate tensions.

Wang also emphasized that Iran should continue to honor its commitment not to develop nuclear weapons, respecting its rights as a signatory of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons to peacefully use nuclear energy. Additionally, he advocated for renewing consensus based on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the framework agreed upon in 2015 by Iran, Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia, and the United States.

While noting that the U.S. withdrawal and the reinstated sanctions during Trump's first term led to setbacks, Wang expressed hope that all parties will now move in unison to resume talks and create a path forward that benefits global peace and security. ✨
