Taiwan Remembers Dr. Sun Yat-sen: A Century of Vision

One hundred years after his passing, Taiwan has gathered in a heartfelt celebration of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s enduring legacy. In Taipei, notable figures including Eric Chu of the Chinese Kuomintang, former KMT chair Ma Ying-jeou, and Chang Ya-chung, president of the Sun Yat-sen School in Taiwan, paid tribute to the revolutionary pioneer.

Dr. Sun, born in 1866 and remembered for his role in ending over 2,000 years of feudal rule through the 1911 Revolution, visited Taiwan three times during its period under Japanese colonial rule. His inspiring ideas sparked patriotism and motivated many young patriots to stand up for a revitalized nation. In a touching moment, his great-grandson, Charles Wong, bowed before Sun's statue, emphasizing the need to realize and transcend his visionary thought.

The centenary observance was marked by diverse activities that went beyond remembrance. Special events, including a Tree Planting Day 🌳 celebrated on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, symposiums, exhibitions, and concerts, highlighted his lasting impact on cultural unity and national rejuvenation.

Speakers stressed that embracing unity and dialogue—aligned with the 1992 Consensus and recognizing that both sides belong to one China—will pave the way for peaceful development between the Chinese mainland and the Taiwan region. As one commentator noted, fulfilling Sun’s dream of a unified nation can lead to a brighter future for all.

As Taiwan commemorates this important milestone, Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s spirit continues to inspire new generations to embrace unity, pursue national rejuvenation, and dare to dream of a better tomorrow. ✨
